NEW Mid-Gauge Tools

Because these tools are all hand-made, rather than stamped out or injection molded, they are relatively expensive for me to have made. For the next couple of months (probably until October 2011), these tools will be available as special orders only. What this means for you is that there will be about a 3 week turn-around on your orders. I will not be stocking a quantity of these tools until I am sure there is adequate demand so tell your friends! Assorted hardwood handles.

Every-Other- Needle Tool for mid-gauge (6.5mm) Machines Every-other-needle lace designs (see page 179 Hand-Manipulated Stitches) and baby basket weave cables (page 93) are a snap with this tool. I also use it when I want to bind-off scrap knitting (which I usually do to protect the live stitches I will finish later). Simply knit 5-6 rows of scrap and then transfer every-other-stitch to the adjacent needle. Put the empty needles out of work and knit one row before quickly binding off half as many stitches!

4-Prong and 5-Prong Transfer Tools (6.5 mm) These are just the tools you need to work larger, bridged cables and wider full-fashioned decreases. You can also use them to work full-fashioned traveling stitches across the surface of a fabric (see page 184-189 in Hand-Manipulated Stitches).

Every-Other-Needle Latch Tool (6.5mm machines) Latching up 1x1 rib is lots faster with this tool! Simply insert the hooks of the tool into two stitches so many rows below their needles, drop the stitches from the needles and then latch up the two resulting ladders at the same time. Use a transfer tool to lift each stitch back into its needle. You can also latch up in tuck for a more decorative effect! (Note - The hooks are perpendicular to the handle for easier handling.)

Multi-Prong Transfer Tools for standard and chunky machines

These standard (4.5 mm) and chunky (9 mm) gauge transfer tools are light-weight, sturdy and comfortable in your hand. A pair of 4 or 5 prong tools is perfect for crossing large cables (as shown in Hand-Manipulated Stitches and More Hand-Manipulated Stitches). The 8/10 prong tools are indispensable for making the large full-fashioned decreases you need for cables to follow a V-neckline or raglan armhole. They make quick work of decreases distributed across a row or hand-manipulated lace and texture effects. Keep in mind that the chunky tools can also be used every-other-needle on a standard bed, though the prongs will not slide between the sinker posts on most standard beds.

Wooden Hand-Made Double Latch Tools

It is lots faster to latch up 2 x 2 ribs with one of these double latch tools than it is the old fashioned way, working one stitch at a time. The hooks are set perpendicular to the smooth wooden handles so you don't have to be a contortionist to use them. Sometimes, latching up is easier than having the ribber in your way - like those times when you just want two knit stitches along side a couple of cables. Available for standard,mid-gauge and chunky/bulky machines. (These tools are meant to be used from the purl side of the work - not for reforming dropped stitches from the knit side.)
